Introducing: The Bridge Hustle

Let’s talk about side hustles.

It’s never been easier to start a business on the side. And that’s a terrible reason to start one.

Last year, SurveyMonkey reported that 37% of full-time workers already have a side hustle. Another 35% are considering one.

Everyone’s doing it. So it must be smart. Right?

Wrong. We hate side hustles.

You can do many things. You can only do one thing great at a time.

The internet will tell you to diversify. Run four businesses. Post on every platform. Stack income streams.

That’s a portfolio strategy. It’s not a mastery strategy.

Business isn’t a game of starting. It’s a game of staying.

And staying requires obsession. Obsession requires focus. Focus requires sacrifice.

You don’t win because you tried six things. You win because you chose one … and kept choosing it when it was boring, invisible, and hard.

Now here’s the nuance.

If you’re sitting in a full-time job and dreaming about building your own thing, we’re not against you starting something on the side.

We’re against you dabbling.

Call it what it is: A Bridge Hustle.

Not a side gig for extra cash. Not a hobby with revenue. But a bridge to your future life.

A proving ground. A validation engine. A disciplined transition from employee to entrepreneur.

A Bridge Hustle has one rule: Only build what you’re willing to go all in on.

Start small. Validate demand. Refine the offer. Build momentum.

And when the bridge is strong enough? Cross it. Burn the boats.

If you’re going to spend your nights and weekends building something, make sure it’s leading somewhere.
Are you constructing a bridge … or just collecting hobbies that happen to pay?

CHEAT CODE: LOVE THE SHOVEL

Ideas are sexy. Shoveling is not.

The founders who win fall in love with the shovel. They do the dull, manual work that teaches the truth about customers, unit economics, you name it — the things that actually move the needle.

If you can't explain how revenue happens from first-hand experience, you don't run the business yet.
Sit on support calls. Close a deal yourself. Fix a bug. Run onboarding by hand.
Build a concierge MVP before you build the product you think you need.

This isn't busywork. These are human experiments that expose what customers really value and what you can charge for.

Make shoveling a ritual. Pick three messy tasks each week and finish them.
Automate only after the manual path is repeatable and profitable.
Manual work speeds learning, tightens unit economics, and gives you facts to argue with investors and teammates.

Loving the shovel is humility turned into advantage.
It keeps your feet on the ground when everybody else is floating on clever ideas.
If you love the shovel, you learn faster, spend smarter, and survive longer.

Fall in love with the hard work. The company will follow.
